Account Settings

A guide to every section of My Account — what each setting does and how to manage it

Overview

The Overview panel is the first section in My Account. It manages your core account credentials.

Display name

Your display name appears next to your avatar throughout the platform — in product listings, comments, and your profile page.

  • Can contain spaces and special characters
  • Does not need to be unique
  • To change: My Account → Overview → Display Name → Change

Email address

Used for login, password recovery, and notifications.

  • Must be unique — one email per account
  • Changing your email requires confirmation from the new address
  • Never shown publicly on your profile
  • To change: My Account → Overview → Email Address → Change

ℹ️ A confirmation link will be sent to the new address. The change only takes effect once you click it.

Password

  • To change: My Account → Password & 2FA → Change Password
  • You must enter your current password to confirm the change
  • All active sessions are ended when your password changes

Profile

Everything visible on your public profile page. Managed in My Account → Profile.

Profile photo (avatar)

  • Recommended size: 800×800 px, minimum 200×200 px
  • Formats: JPG, PNG, WebP — maximum 1 MB
  • Always displayed as a circle — centre your subject in the crop
  • To change: Profile → Profile Photo → Change Avatar

Cover photo

  • Recommended size: 1920×480 px, up to 3 MB
  • Displayed at the top of your profile page
  • To remove: Profile → Cover Photo → Remove

Profile Theme Shookout Pro

A background image displayed below your cover photo, visible across all tabs of your profile. Available only with an active Shookout Pro subscription.

About Me

  • Appears on the About tab of your public profile
  • Full rich-text editor — supports formatting, images, embedded media
  • To edit: Profile → About Me → Edit

Social links

  • Links to your website, portfolio, or other platforms
  • Displayed on your profile page
  • To manage: Profile → Social Links

Away Status Shookout Pro

Display a message on your profile informing buyers you are temporarily unavailable. Useful when you are on holiday or pausing support. Available only with an active Shookout Pro subscription.

Messaging

Managed in My Account → Messaging.

Inbox

Opens your direct messages at shookout.com/messenger. Use Compose Message to start a new conversation.

Auto-Reply Shookout Pro

Automatically sends a reply to anyone who messages you privately. Write your own message and enable or disable it at any time via Messaging → Auto-Reply → Configure.

Quick Replies Shookout Pro

A library of ready-made message templates you can insert with one click when replying to messages or support tickets. Manage templates via Messaging → Quick Replies → Manage.

Password & 2FA

Managed in My Account → Password & 2FA.

Change password

  1. Click Change Password
  2. Enter your current password
  3. Enter and confirm your new password
  4. Click Save

Two-factor authentication (2FA)

Adds a second verification step to your login. Even if someone knows your password, they cannot access your account without the code from your authenticator app or SMS.

Authenticator app

Generates 6-digit codes offline every 30 seconds. Most secure method. Recommended.

SMS

Code sent by text message. Works without an app but requires mobile signal.

Backup codes

10 one-time emergency codes. Save them securely — shown only once during setup.

shookout will never ask for your 2FA codes. Anyone requesting them is a scammer.

Devices

Managed in My Account → Devices. Shows all active sessions — every device and browser currently logged into your account.

For each session you can see: device type, OS, browser, approximate location (by IP), and last activity time. The current session is marked separately.

  • To end a single session: click Log out next to it
  • To end all other sessions: click End all sessions

ℹ️ If you see an unfamiliar device, end that session immediately, change your password, and enable 2FA if you have not already.

Connected Apps

Managed in My Account → Connected Apps. Lists all third-party services that have been granted access to your account via OAuth.

For each connected app you can see: app name, connection date, last activity, and which permissions it has. To revoke access click Disconnect next to the app.

Review this list periodically and remove any apps you no longer use. Revoking access does not delete data the app has already collected — check the app's own privacy policy.

Privacy

Managed in My Account → Privacy.

Profile visibility

  • Public (default) — visible to everyone, indexed by search engines
  • Members only — visible only to logged-in shookout users
  • Private — visible only to you

ℹ️ Your email address, date of birth, and last active time are never shown publicly — they are always private regardless of your visibility setting.

Cookies

Manage which cookie categories you consent to: Essential (always on), Functional, Analytics, and Advertising. Change at any time via Privacy → Cookies.

My Data

Managed in My Account → My Data.

Data export

  1. Click Request archive
  2. Select what to include: profile, purchase history, sales history, messages, favourites
  3. Click Create archive
  4. A download link is sent to your email within 24–48 hours, valid for 7 days
  5. Archive is delivered in JSON and CSV formats

Account deletion

Permanently removes all your data. The process has a 30-day recovery window before data is irreversibly deleted. Financial transaction records are retained for 7 years as required by law.

Notifications

Managed in My Account → Notifications. Configure which events trigger an email or on-site notification.

Purchases

Order confirmations, receipts, and product update notifications.

Sales

New purchases of your products, buyer reviews, and questions.

Messages

New direct messages and replies to comments.

Security

Login from a new device, password changes, suspicious activity. Cannot be disabled.

Marketing

Promotions, new releases, and personalised recommendations.

Important

Updates to Terms, Privacy Policy, and critical platform announcements. Cannot be disabled.

Appearance

Managed in My Account → Appearance. Choose your platform theme:

  • Light — white background
  • Dark — easier on the eyes in low-light environments
  • Auto — follows your device's system light/dark mode setting

Your preference is saved to your account and applies on any device you are logged into.

Language

Managed in My Account → Language. Changes the platform interface language. Email notifications and date formats adapt automatically.

Shookout Pro

Managed in My Account → Shookout Pro. View your current subscription status and manage your plan. Shookout Pro unlocks:

  • Profile Theme — background image below your cover photo
  • Away Status — display an unavailability message on your profile
  • Auto-Reply — automatic replies to incoming messages
  • Quick Replies — saved message templates for fast responses

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I change my email address?

Go to My Account → Overview → Email Address → Change. Enter the new address and confirm it via the link sent to it. The change only takes effect after confirmation.

I forgot my password. What should I do?

On the sign-in page click Forgot your password?, enter your email, and follow the instructions. Full guide: Password Recovery.

I lost my phone with the authenticator app. How do I log in?

Use one of your saved backup codes at the 2FA prompt. If you do not have them, contact support via the Help Desk with identity verification.

How do I end active sessions on other devices?

Go to My Account → Devices. Click Log out next to any session, or End all sessions to sign out everywhere at once.

Can other users see my email address?

No. Your email is always private and never shown publicly on your profile, regardless of your visibility settings.

How do I download all my data?

Go to My Account → My Data → Request archive. A download link will be sent to your email within 24–48 hours, valid for 7 days.

Can I recover my account after requesting deletion?

Yes — within 30 days of the request. Simply log in and cancel the deletion. After 30 days the data is permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.

Can I have multiple accounts?

Members may have multiple accounts if each uses a unique email. Sellers are limited to one verified account — creating multiple seller accounts is prohibited.
