How subscriptions work on shookout — product subscriptions, Shookout Pro, renewals, and cancellation

Types of subscriptions on shookout

There are two types of subscriptions on shookout — product subscriptions sold by sellers, and the Shookout Pro platform subscription.

Some products on shookout are sold as subscriptions — buyers pay a recurring fee to access the latest version. The seller sets the price, renewal period (in months), and what the subscription covers.

ℹ️ One-time vs Subscription: With a one-time purchase, all future versions are included automatically — you never pay again. With a subscription, you must renew after the period expires to continue downloading new versions. Existing downloads are yours to keep regardless.

How renewals work

When a seller uses the Subscription model, they specify a renewal period in months and a renewal price. Here is what happens:

You pay the listed price and gain access to download the current version. The renewal period starts from the purchase date.

During the renewal period you can download the current version and any updates the seller publishes. Your subscription is active.

When the period ends, the subscription expires. You can no longer download new versions — but files you already downloaded remain yours.

Pay the seller's renewal fee to extend access for another period. You can renew at any time — there is no penalty for letting it lapse.

Files you have already downloaded are yours permanently regardless of subscription status. You only need an active subscription to download new versions.

Managing your subscriptions

View and manage all your active and expired subscriptions in one place.

  1. Go to My Purchases
    Open My Purchases from the user menu. Products with a subscription model show their renewal status — Active, Expired, or Expiry date.
  2. Check subscription status
    Each subscription product shows: product name, purchase date, renewal period, next renewal date (or expiry date), and renewal price.
  3. Renew or manage
    Click on the product to open the order page. From there you can renew the subscription or view the full purchase details.

Cancellation and expiry

ℹ️ How cancellation works: Product subscriptions on shookout do not auto-renew by default — the subscription simply expires at the end of the period. You choose whether to renew or not. There is no automatic charge.

The exception is PayPal Subscriptions. If a seller offers PayPal as a recurring billing option, your subscription is managed through PayPal's billing agreement:

PayPal Subscriptions: If your purchase has an associated PayPal Subscription, it cannot be modified, cancelled, or transferred through shookout unless the PayPal Subscription is cancelled first. To cancel, go to your PayPal account → Payments → Manage automatic payments → find the shookout subscription and cancel it there.

What happens when a subscription expires

  • Files already downloaded — remain yours permanently
  • Downloading new versions — not available until you renew
  • Old versions — still accessible from My Purchases
  • Renewing later — you can renew at any time, no penalty for letting it lapse

Shookout Pro subscription

Shookout Pro is the platform's own subscription — separate from any product you purchase. It unlocks premium features for your shookout account.

A background image displayed below your cover photo, visible across all tabs of your profile.
Away Status
Display a message on your profile informing buyers you are temporarily unavailable.
Auto-Reply
Automatically send a reply to anyone who messages you privately.
Quick Replies
Saved message templates you can insert with one click in messages and support tickets.
Expanded My Library
More storage for images, PDFs, and other files you upload for reuse across the platform.

Managing Shookout Pro

  1. Open My Account → Shookout Pro
    Click your avatar → My Account → Shookout Pro. Here you see your subscription status, renewal date, and plan details.
  2. Manage or cancel
    You can cancel the Pro subscription at any time. Access to Pro features continues until the end of the paid period.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if a product requires a subscription?

The product page shows the pricing model before you buy. If it says Subscription with a renewal period and price, it requires renewal to access new versions. One-time purchases are clearly marked and include all future versions with no renewal.

Will I be charged automatically when my subscription expires?

No — product subscriptions on shookout do not auto-renew automatically. The subscription simply expires and you choose whether to renew. The only exception is if the seller uses PayPal recurring billing, in which case your PayPal billing agreement will continue until you cancel it in your PayPal account.

Can I still use files I downloaded after the subscription expires?

Yes — files you have already downloaded are yours permanently. An expired subscription only prevents you from downloading new versions published after expiry. Anything in your My Purchases remains accessible.

How do I cancel a PayPal subscription?

Log in to your PayPal account → go to Settings → Payments → Manage automatic payments → find the shookout subscription → click Cancel. Once cancelled in PayPal, your subscription will not renew. Contact support if you need help.

What is the difference between Shookout Pro and a product subscription?

Shookout Pro is a subscription to the platform — it unlocks premium account features (Profile Theme, Quick Replies, etc.). A product subscription is purchased from a seller for a specific product and covers access to that product's updates. They are completely independent.

Can I get a refund on a subscription?

Refer to the Refund Policy for full details. Generally, if the product was not accessed or downloaded and you request a refund shortly after purchase, we will review it individually. Renewals are generally non-refundable once the new period has started.

Is it safe to store my card for subscription renewals?

Yes. All payments are processed by Stripe (PCI DSS Level 1). Your card details are stored securely by Stripe — never on shookout servers. If you used PayPal, your payment details are managed by PayPal.
