System requirements
Minimum requirements for a comfortable experience on shookout:
macOS: 11 Big Sur or newer
Linux: Ubuntu 20.04+ or any modern distribution
ChromeOS: Any current version
Recommended: Quad-core CPU, 4+ GB RAM
For large file uploads: 8+ GB RAM
Recommended: 5+ Mbps (file downloads)
For large uploads: 10+ Mbps
Android: Android 8.0+ with Chrome 90+
Tablets: Any modern device with an up-to-date browser
Installing shookout as an app (PWA)
shookout is built on Invision Community 5, which supports Progressive Web App (PWA) installation. This means you can add shookout to your home screen and use it like a native app — with its own icon, full-screen view, and push notifications.
How to install on iOS (Safari)
- Open shookout.com in Safari
- Tap the Share button at the bottom of the screen
- Tap Add to Home Screen
- Confirm the name and tap Add
How to install on Android (Chrome)
- Open shookout.com in Chrome
- Tap the menu in the top right
- Tap Add to Home screen or Install app
- Confirm and tap Add
How to install on desktop (Chrome / Edge)
- Open shookout.com in Chrome or Edge
- Look for the install icon in the address bar (right side)
- Click it and select Install
ℹ️ What you get with PWA installation:
- Dedicated icon on your home screen or desktop
- Full-screen view without browser chrome
- Push notifications (iOS 16.4+ via Safari, Android via Chrome)
- Faster loading on repeat visits
iOS note: PWA installation on iOS requires Safari — it is not available through Chrome or Firefox on iPhone. Push notifications via PWA require iOS 16.4 or later and must be enabled after installation when Safari prompts you.
Checking your browser
shookout requires JavaScript and Cookies to be enabled. Both are on by default in all supported browsers.
How to check your browser version
Fixing common issues
Page displays incorrectly or looks broken
- Clear cache: Ctrl+Shift+Delete → select "Cached images and files" → Clear data
- Try incognito mode: Some browser extensions interfere with layout — open an incognito/private window to test without them
- Reset zoom: Ctrl+0 (Cmd+0 on Mac) — restores 100% zoom
- Update your browser: Older versions may not support modern CSS and layout features
Buttons not responding or forms not submitting
- Enable JavaScript: Go to browser settings → Site Settings → JavaScript → Allowed
- Disable ad blockers temporarily: Extensions like uBlock Origin or AdBlock can accidentally block site functionality — add shookout.com to the allowlist
- Check the browser console: Press F12 → Console tab — look for red error messages and note them when contacting support
- Try a different browser: If it works elsewhere, the issue is specific to your current browser's configuration
File downloads not starting or failing
- Check browser download settings: Make sure downloads are not being blocked by the browser
- Disable download managers: Third-party download managers can interfere with direct file downloads
- Try a different browser: Safari on iOS has some file download limitations — Chrome for iOS handles more file types
- Check available storage: Ensure you have enough free space on your device
Slow page loading
- Clear cache and cookies: Ctrl+Shift+Delete — accumulated cache can slow the browser significantly
- Close unused tabs: Each open tab consumes RAM
- Disable resource-heavy extensions: Some extensions have significant performance impact
- Test your connection: Run a speed test — the issue may be your internet speed, not the browser
- Update your browser: Current versions are significantly faster than old ones
If you are using a VPN, it can slow page loads or occasionally trigger security checks at login. Try disabling it temporarily to see if it resolves the issue.
Mobile browsers
shookout works on mobile browsers. For the best experience, keep your browser updated.
- Fast loading
- Desktop bookmark sync
- Reliable file downloads
- Excellent iOS and iPadOS integration
- Apple Pay supported
- Some file upload size limits
- Strong privacy defaults
- Extensions on Android
- Tracking protection built-in
Mobile limitations to be aware of:
- File uploads: Maximum upload size from mobile is limited by the device and browser — Chrome generally handles larger files than Safari on iOS
- Background downloads: Downloads may pause if you lock your screen or switch apps — keep the browser open until the download completes
- Push notifications on iOS: Available in Safari on iOS 16.4+ only when shookout is added to the Home Screen
- Low Power Mode: Some background tasks may be paused — disable it if you encounter issues during large downloads
Updating your browser
Tip: Enable automatic updates in your browser settings. You'll always have the latest security patches and performance improvements without having to check manually.
Frequently asked questions
Internet Explorer is no longer maintained — Microsoft officially ended support on June 15, 2022. It lacks modern web APIs required by shookout, has known security vulnerabilities, and performs very poorly on current sites. Microsoft recommends switching to Edge.
Chrome and Edge perform best — both use the Chromium engine, which is what we develop and test against. Firefox is close and performs excellently. Safari on macOS is slightly slower on Chromium-optimised interfaces but fully functional.
Yes. AdBlock, uBlock Origin, and similar extensions are compatible with shookout. However, aggressive blocking rules can sometimes accidentally block site functionality (forms, buttons) rather than just ads. If something stops working, add shookout.com to your allowlist and test again.
Apple applies specific restrictions to Safari for privacy and energy efficiency — particularly on iOS, where all browsers must use Apple's WebKit engine. This affects push notifications, certain file upload sizes, and a small number of web APIs. For full functionality, Chrome or Firefox on desktop gives the most consistent experience.
Yes. Chrome, Firefox, Chromium, and Brave all work well on Linux. We test primarily on Ubuntu but any modern distribution is supported. Niche Linux browsers (Konqueror, Midori) may have compatibility issues — Chrome or Firefox is recommended.
The site will open in Tor, but performance will be very slow and some features may not function correctly due to Tor's strict security settings. You may also encounter CAPTCHA challenges at login. Tor is not recommended for regular use on shookout.
PlayStation and Xbox have built-in browsers and the site will open, but the experience is not practical — navigation with a controller is awkward, file downloads are limited, and some features may not render correctly. We don't recommend using shookout on consoles.
